Conference "Labour Migration Flows in Southeast Europe"

 Regional conference “Labour Migration Flows in Southeast Europe” was held in Belgrade on June 26-27, 2008. During two days of conference more than 70 participants shared opinions and experiences related to the problem of labour migration in Southeast Europe. At the opening, Mr. Bojan Đurić, State Secretary at the Ministry for Diaspora of the Republic of Serbia greeted the conference participants.

Group 484’s researchers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Bulgaria and Romania introduced the participants to the legislation, situation and perspectives of migration policy development in their home countries with special focus on problems of labour migrations and access to rights of labour migrants. The discussion was comprehensive and focused on regional cooperation and the ways it can be improved in the area of labour migration.

 Labour migration problem in the region of SEE was examined at two panel discussions dealing with cooperation of regional national employment services in the SEE region and normative assumptions for regulating labour migrants position. The importance of Centres of public employment services in the SEE region was emphasised, with necessity for further harmonisation of legislature and adopting standards for improvement of development policies of the SEE countries, protecting at the same time human rights of forced migrants.
